Exciting
plans underway for the future of Madison County Medical Center
A certificate of need has been filed with the state to build a replacement
facility for the 67-bed, over 40-year-old facility located in Canton.
With a location just off the interstate across from Nissan, the new
medical center will afford excellent access for all parts of the county
and provide emergency care literally within minutes of the 4,000-plus
Nissan employees and those businesses employing hundreds located near
the Nissan plant while remaining true to our friends and neighbors
in Canton. MCMC operators have an option to purchase the land for the
proposed site, which will be executed upon approval of the Certificate
of Need.
Under new ownership, the current hospital is already making a positive
economic impact in the community, and this will increase with the opening
of the new facility. The new hospital will bear a new name, Madison Regional
Medical Center, emphasizing the accessibility and outreach to all parts
of the county. Our company, HMA, demonstrated a strong commitment to
Madison County when it acquired Madison County Medical Center in 2002.
This new facility will make modern, state-of-the-art healthcare services
available in a central location of the county. Another very positive
and exciting benefit will be the increased recruitment potential of healthcare
professionals. Physicians are much more likely to relocate to an area
that offers a new, modern facility. And, anytime a physician comes to
an area to practice and live, there are many economic “spin off” benefits
felt in the community.
A new hospital will be much more attractive to
the loyal Madison County Medical Center employees who have continued
to provide care in the dated current facility, while other healthcare
providers from Madison County such as nurses, radiological technicians
and respiratory therapists will be able to work in their home county.
As the county's only tax-paying healthcare provider, we expect the taxes
paid to the county to increase significantly as well. This year, our
company expects to pay $218,000 in sales and property taxes. When operational,
taxes related to the new facility would be considerably greater.
We will continue to meet your healthcare needs and improve our services
by offering additional services to our hospital.
